Cambio para Cambio

A concept inspired by the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado, HDF brought Cambio para Cambio to Kansas City in April 2017. For two months, 14 HDF Alumni and Latino professionals engaged over 150 donors to raise nearly $6,000.

The first Cambio para Cambio campaign to coincide with Hispanic Heritage Month, HDF partnered with students, families, and staff at Guadalupe Centers High School seeking to raise scholarship funds for undocumented GCHS students. This campaign brought in $11,646 with the Guadalupe Centers High School community raising $8,576 of that total.

In the fall of 2018, HDF increased engagement in the campaign by recruiting 17 high school, college, and professional teams. HDF also engaged three generous donors who pledged to match the scholarship dollars fundraised by the student-led teams. As a result of the increase in student teams and match dollars, the 2018 campaign engaged over 300 donors (primarily Hispanic individuals and families) to fundraise nearly $70,000.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the Kansas City Hispanic community demonstrated its resilience during the 2021 HDF Cambio para Cambio campaign by setting new milestones in match dollar commitments, number of participating teams, donors engaged, and total dollars raised. Raising over $321,000, 44 teams created 220 HDF Scholarships to award in 2022. Additionally, the HDF Scholarship program college and university partners matched those funds creating a total of $509,000 scholarship dollars.

In 2022, we had 46 teams who joined the campaign. Surpassing our overall goal of $350,000, and raising a total of $425,984, our student-led teams really surprised us this year. From paleta sales to student gala’s, the High School Division alone raised: $187,963.00.

After all match dollars and an incredible last minute donation, in 2023, our community raised $500,000 to support HDF's Scholarship Program. This was the first year JCCC's Latinos United Now and Always (LUNA) reigned as college champions and joined returning champions, Guadalupe Centers High School and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers – Kansas City Chapter in raising the most dollars.

The 2024 Cambio para Cambio campaign coincided with HDF’s 40th Anniversary and raised $507,368.88 – the highest total in the campaign’s history. Students continue to lead the charge, with the High School Division raising $193,622.70 of that total.
