Liz first joined the Hispanic Development Fund as a volunteer in 2018 and now serves as the Director of Marketing & Development. In this role, she leads storytelling, fundraising, and community engagement efforts to grow the impact of HDF’s work across Kansas City.

Originally from Querétaro, Mexico, Liz first arrived to the United States alongside her then single mother. Since then, she has worked to build a life that uplifts those who follow, especially within the undocumented community. Growing up in an immigrant household, giving up never felt like an option, especially knowing the sacrifices her family had to make. Today, she hopes to inspire students with similar paths while also paying it forward through her own scholarship, the Luchona Scholarship. This scholarship represents her mother’s courage to pursue a life that would allow Liz to flourish and give her own daughters the life she once dreamed of. Through its support, Liz hopes more young women, particularly those who are undocumented, can see that there is a path forward despite what the world would want them to believe.

While this work is a significant part of Liz’s world, outside of HDF you can find her jamming out to Bad Bunny, spending time in nature, or soaking up time with her family. She’s a proud mom of three, a lover of plants, and a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.
