Xavier Salas
A recent graduate of Columbia University in the City of New York, Xavier received his Master of Social Work and now serves as a School-Based Licensed Therapist at Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools. An accomplishment driven by his commitment to be the representation needed in today’s mental health environment.
As a first-generation student, Xavier didn’t always have the answers on how to move forward. Many times he found himself feeling pressure and doubt in spaces he thought he didn’t belong. Xavier now recognizes patience, grace, and community are key to navigating the college journey. His advice to those who follow: seek support early on, find mentors and identify people that could help guide you through the process.
Xavier’s biggest accomplishment thus far? Receiving his Master of Social Work. Today, he continues to build upon his degree as he works toward becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with a goal of advancing culturally competent care and addressing mental health disparities within the Latinx community.
